Port Forwarding
For lag and connectivity issues, try opening and port-forwarding specific ports on your router to allow traffic between your network and our servers.

Port forward settings can improve your game experience. Visit https://portforward.com/ for information and to learn the basics. Check out the following for specific things to try:

Turn On UPnP

As an alternative to port forwarding, try turning on the UPnP setting for your router:

  1. Access your router’s configuration page by typing your router’s IP address into your browser.

  2. Navigate to the advanced settings.

  3. Look for the UPnP setting and turn it on.

Strict NAT (Type 3) Routers

If your router is a strict NAT (Type 3), you need to forward ports 27000-27050. Forwarding these ports sends incoming traffic directly to the PC where you play New World.

Note: To check if your router is a strict NAT, check your router’s network settings. For more information on NAT types, go to https://portforward.com/nat-types/.

Testing Router Open Status

Try the following steps in Windows to check if your router is open:

  1. Select the Start button.

  2. Open Settings.

  3. Select Gaming.

  4. Select Xbox Networking.

  5. Check the results, and if blocked, select Fix it.

Troubleshoot your firewall

Try adding Windows firewall exceptions manually:

  1. Press Windows + R, type "firewall.cpl" into the Run window, and then press Enter.

  2. Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall and then click Change settings.

  3. Look for the game in the list of allowed apps and features. If it’s present, make sure it’s checked, and that both the Private and Public columns have a check mark. If the game is missing from the list, you must add it.

  1. Click Allow another app..., locate and select NewWorldLauncher.exe, and then click Add.

  2. Once you've done that, make sure that New World has check marks under both the Private and Public columns.

Updating your firewall software may help resolve connectivity issues. For instructions on how to update third party firewall software, we recommend checking the support pages provided by your firewall software publisher. If possible, you should also add an exception within your firewall software.

If you’re still having trouble, the next step is to disable or uninstall your firewall temporarily. We do not recommend leaving your firewall disabled long term. It should be enabled or reinstalled as soon as you’ve confirmed that it’s not causing your issues.

Steps for disabling third party firewalls vary, so we recommend checking the manufacturer’s support pages before uninstalling your firewall entirely.

To uninstall a third party firewall:

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings.

  2. Select Apps & features.

  3. Select the program, and then select the three dots button.

  4. Select Uninstall, and then confirm. Some apps built in to Windows can't be uninstalled.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings.

  2. Select System > Apps & features.

  3. Select the program, and then select Uninstall. Some apps built in to Windows can't be uninstalled.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button. Click Control Panel, Programs, and then Programs and Features.

  2. Select System > Apps & features.

  3. Select a program, and then click Uninstall. Some programs include the option to change or repair the program in addition to uninstalling. To change a program click Change or Repair. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Opening Ports

The ports listed below cannot be blocked and must be OPEN on your windows firewall, router, and ISP. To open ports:

  1. Access your router’s configuration page by typing your router’s IP address into your browser.

  2. Select the Ports or Port Forwarding section.

  3. Forward or open the following New World required ports:

    • TCP Inbound/Outbound: 80, 443

    • UDP Inbound: 27000-27050

    • UDP Outbound: 20000-59999

  4. Forward or open the following Steam required ports:

    • UDP Outbound: 3478, 4739, 4380

    • UDP Outbound: 27050-27100

    • TCP Inbound: 27015, 27036

Note: Set Inbound ports need to forwarded and set Outbound ports to open and not blocked.

The ports listed cannot be blocked and must be OPEN on your windows firewall, router, and ISP.

If opening these ports on your firewall and/or router doesn't resolve the issue, we recommend:

  • Checking with your ISP (internet service provider). Some ISPs may be limiting traffic on certain ports, which can impact your ability to play our games.

  • Referring to your router administration webpage(s) to see if they block any port ranges.
